A Day in the Life of a Community Representative

Our Community Representative position explains Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program benefits to homeowners, gathers technical information about their houses and documents the information for detailed analysis. In addition, the building analyst returns to present proposed improvements and obtain homeowner commitment to move forward.  Primary responsibilities of our Community Representative include serving as a representative of Allied Energy Efficiency Experts, displaying courtesy, professionalism, and discretion in all interactions with homeowners and utility program representatives.  Our Community creates and maintains clear schedules with homeowners that reflect the range of times they are available for visits and fully understands Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program requirements and utility program incentives.  In addition, they effectively communicate with homeowners and educate them about Allied and Home Performance to create interest and excitement in moving forward with projects and they fully understand the fundamentals of building science, HVAC systems, water heating systems, lighting and appliances. (TRAINING PROVIDED) Our Community Representative completes residential energy audits to company and program standards in a timely and efficient manner and documents findings in a clear and complete manner.  They educate homeowners regarding the benefits of program participation and utilize computer technology to effectively and efficiently transfer project information to other departments and returns to homes to confirm accuracy of audit results and verify health, comfort, and economic benefit of proposed measures.  In addition, they obtain homeowner approval to apply for program participation and are proficient in testing for gas leaks. 

What you Need to be Qualified for the Community Representative Position

In order to be qualified for the Community Representative position, a valid driver's license and ability to meet insurance safe-driving requirements is required.  BPI Building Analyst Professional certification preferred. (Training and testing will be offered after 1 year for employees not yet certified.)  We are also looking for individuals who excel in these particular categories:

Knowledge

  • Customer and Personal Service ' Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Standards Basic knowledge of the New Jersey Clean Energy Program and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program requirements.
  • Sales and Marketing ' Knowledge of principles and methods for promoting and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, sales techniques, and sales control systems.

Skills

  • Speaking ' Ability to others to convey correct information effectively with proper annunciation.
  • Reading Comprehension' Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with homeowners and co-workers, in both verbal and written formats.
  • Team-oriented, with an ability to build enthusiasm and maintain support for proven work procedures and standard methods. Must support a positive, collaborative, results-oriented approach to solving workplace obstacles.
  • Technologically proficient, including significant experience with PC's, scanners, digital cameras, file transfer, and electronic communication.
  • Organized, with an ability to efficiently create and maintain personal schedules, communicate them to homeowners and coworkers, and monitor the schedules of others. Capable of regularly multi-tasking to ensure timely completion of simultaneous projects.
  • Technical aptitude, with some knowledge of construction concepts, building science, and energy efficiency retrofit approaches, along with an eagerness to continuously develop new skills.

Abilities

  • Organization' Ability to delegate one's own tasks to a regiment that will allow for an effective and efficient work environment.
  • Written Comprehension ' Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Oral Comprehension ' Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Oral Expression ' Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Must be able to work effectively in and out of an office setting.
  • Scheduling that routinely includes work on evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to stay on task and even-keeled in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must conform to company culture.
  • Ability to work in various positions, including reaching overhead, bending, squatting, standing, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Ability to move and climb ladders.
  • Ability to crawl across attics and crawlspaces
